Video Overview

Jerad at Neeves Knives opens the Molsect Negroni and treats the front flipper like a habit he cannot quit. Molsect sent him this knife. The one on the bench is the bead-blasted titanium build, model MUC778T, with a satin M390 blade and a steel liner lock. Designer UnTillTheEdge-Yang shaped it. The video runs about sixteen minutes, and most of that time is the sound of the blade locking open. Jerad flips it, listens to the lock, and only then walks the handle, the grind, and a second Molsect he has been carrying. Thanks to Neeves Knives for staying on the action instead of reading a spec sheet out loud.

Editor’s Insight

Thanks again to Jerad at Neeves Knives for spending the first half of this video on one deployment. The Negroni is a front flipper. A thumb flick works. A reverse flick does not come as easily. The front flipper is the one Jerad cannot stop using. The detent sits early, so the blade is already past it once the flip starts. Jerad says the drop feels smoother off camera than it does under the lights. That is a fair warning if you judge a knife only from a video. Lockup lands with a hard click. Jerad has been hitting it hard, and the pivot has stayed centered.

The blade is a drop point with a low tip. The tip sits below the pivot and curves down, so it points at the work whether Jerad is slicing or poking. Jerad calls the grind a full flat. A short swedge runs along the spine, and that swedge is not doing real cutting work. The edge is thin. The stock is still thick enough that the knife does not feel flimsy. The finish on this sample is belt satin, not black. Molsect also sells an all-black Negroni, model MUC778B, with a dark finish on the blade and the handle. Jerad says he wishes he had asked for that one. This post links the bead-blasted knife he actually reviewed.

The handles are titanium scales over steel liners, with a steel liner lock. The lock bar is chamfered and easy to reach. Jerad does not miss texture there. It feels closer to a button than to a rough ramp. A large lanyard hole sits in the back spacer, and a cord can pass through it without taking the knife apart. The clip ramps in and out of a pocket. Hardware is T8. The pivot is the annoyance. If it loosens, the scale has to come off before anyone can tighten it. On this sample it has not loosened.

The shape is the other half of the praise. Two fingers sit in the front hollow, two sit behind it, and the thumb lands in a notch. Those hollows are real scoops, not a light chamfer, and Jerad likes the look. Squeeze hard and the edges of those scoops show up in the hand. Jerad would have crowned them more. The jimping is sharp and it catches, but it stops before the top of the flipper. Jerad wants jimping around that corner so a high thumb does not slip. The last jimp still catches most of the time. That missing stretch, plus the edges, is why Jerad will not call the knife perfect. The plunge line is soft. Jerad can sharpen past it without hitting the handle, so that one gets a pass.

Jerad refuses to quote a number on camera because the number moves. This post does the same. The description link opens the Molsect shop, not this exact product page. The first link below is the MUC778T page, the satin and bead-blasted knife in the video.

The second knife is not a second Negroni. It is a Molsect Yuppie Jerad has shown before, this time in heat-colored timascus with a DLC blade. Jerad has been carrying a Cerakote Yuppie. The one in this video has a thick timascus pattern in orange, red, and blue, not the tight crystal pattern. Molsect lists crystal timascus Yuppies as separate models. This post links the heat-colored MUC455DM, the one with the DLC blade and the colors Jerad describes. It is a front flipper with a modified spear-point blade and a frame lock. The handle carries more weight than the blade, which is the balance Jerad likes. Jerad points viewers to an earlier Yuppie video for the full walkthrough. UnTillTheEdge-Yang designed both knives. If you want the Negroni Jerad cannot put down, start with the bead-blasted one. If you want the flashier Molsect at the end of the video, that is the heat-colored Yuppie, not the black Negroni.

Closing Remarks

Watch Jerad at Neeves Knives flip the Negroni before you decide the jimping nitpick matters. The links above go to the bead-blasted Negroni he reviewed and the heat-colored Yuppie he holds up at the end. The black Negroni is a different finish, and this post does not link that one. The description link opens the Molsect shop, not a single product. Use the two product links in the list if you want the knives from the video. Hit play, then come back and say which finish you would actually carry.
