Pivot 2.0 - The Swiss Army Key Organizer 2.0

The folks at Keyport sent over their newest creation, the Pivot 2.0 modular key organizer, and they did their homework as it is a step up from the original Pivot and clearly separates itself from other Swiss Army style key organizers. It is currently available for pre-order on Keyport’s website at

https://www.mykeyport.com/products/pivot-2-key-organizer

.

Pivot 2.0 Updates

The Pivot 2.0 includes several key (no pun intended) upgrades:

  • Replaced metal watch band with a strong TPU band - Thermoplastic Polyurethane (TPU) is a rubber-like material that is extremely durable and flexible. I believe Orbitkey uses a similar material on one of their models.
  • Replaced small D-ring with a more robust D-ring - The larger D-ring is a good idea, not only for increased strength, but to allow larger carabiners to connect to it.
  • Replaced metal spacers with Delrin spacers - Even though spacers are not required in the Pivot setup, They can help the keys slide smoothly while keeping the weight down.
  • Setup is simple - This was the most surprising upgrade in that assembly was very easy. The entire setup goes together painlessly, and there was no fumbling trying to hold the keys while tightening the screw. I also really appreciate the clicking sound I hear every 90 degrees as I tighten (or loosen) it. In my opinion, this is the easiest setup of any Swiss Army style key organizer.
  • Available in Titanium, Stainless Steel, and Aircraft Grade Aluminum - This was the best upgrade! Finally, Keyport has added Titanium ($59 MSRP) to its offerings. The Stainless Steel option ($34.99 MSRP), while a bit heavier at 1.4 oz. vs. 0.7 oz. for Aluminum, looks great in that metallic oil slick color Keyport calls Spectrum. Keyport is also offering the Pivot 2.0 in five Aluminum colors - Black, Red, Silver, Blue, and Orange ($24.99 MSRP). Pre-orders are currently being offered at a 15% discount to MSRP.

Building Upon the Pivot 1.0

Along with the upgrades to the Pivot 2.0, it has retained several of the trademark features of the original Pivot I really liked including:

  • Modularity - Ability to snap on our tool & tech modules (including our new OmniFob Smart Remote Module) to both sides of the chassis. No other key organizer currently has this feature, and in my opinion results in modules that are more robust and streamlined (like the mini-flashlight) than those that either go alongside the keys or are separate and attached via a carabiner
  • Custom Faceplates - Ability to snap on custom faceplates to show off your own personal style. This too is unique in that Keyport currently offers a wide range of custom printed faceplates - carbon fiber, wood, camo, even your favorite barcode.
  • Proprietary Locking Mechanism - The Pivot can be tightened to the preferred tension, clicks every 90 degrees, and doesn’t loosen over time. Keys can shift around a bit, but a simple tightening with a penny to account for that every once in a while, and it is tight again.
  • KeyportID Lost & Found Service - Like the Keyport Pivot 1.0, the Pivot 2.0 comes with a two-year subscription to their exclusive lost and found service. Each Pivot has a unique serial number laser engraved onto the chassis. When registered and if found in the wild, the Pivot 2.0 can be reunited with its owner as the finder can get in touch anonymously and directly by scanning the QR code on the included KeyportID card.

Why the Keyport Pivot 2.0 Is My Favorite Key Organizer

There are several reasons why I think that the Pivot 2.0 distinguishes itself among its competition:

  • Pivot has keys and tools on one side only vs. two sides (like Keysmart or Keybar) - I’m surprised this isn’t talked about more. First the setup to space the keys properly on a key organizer with keys on both sides can be challenging. Second, the keys often stick up/out slightly and can get caught on loose strings in your pocket more easily. I like that the Pivot keeps keys and tools covered and that setup, especially with the 2.0, is simple.
  • Modularity - I like the modules that Keyport offers; they just feel more substantial. The Pocket Flare mini-flashlight is sleek and has two modes - beam and lamp. The NEBA pocketknife is well-balanced and sturdy and does not feel like an afterthought. I’m really looking forward to testing the OmniFob smart remote as soon as they finish their Kickstarter fulfillment (it is available for pre-order at https://www.mykeyport.com/collections/modules/products/omnifob-smart-remote-module).
  • Locking Mechanism - Loosening over time has really been an issue with several of the Swiss Army style key organizers that utilize a screw and pin. The Pivot’s unique locking design has all but eliminated that issue.
  • Custom Faceplates - This is a unique feature, and Keyport needs to open this up to allow us to create our own designs.
  • KeyportID - Sure, we have Bluetooth locators that can help us find a misplaced keychain or key holder. Keysmart’s incorporation of Tile is pretty good, and Keyport’s OmniFob includes a built-in locator powered by Chipolo. But in the case that they don’t work (like outside of major metropolitan areas without a populated mesh network), KeyportID is pretty useful. It doesn’t require WiFi, Bluetooth connectivity, or a mesh network, and it won’t drain your phone’s battery. It is also free for the first two years (option to continue @ $4.99 per year thereafter). Keyport even offers a reward on behalf of their customer for its safe recovery.
  • Customer Support - As a longtime Keyport user (Pivot and Slide), I can attest to their excellent customer service. They get back to you quickly and do what they can to answer your questions and solve your issues.

Overall, I think that the Pivot 2.0 is well worth the upgrade, and I am looking forward to seeing what’s next from Keyport.

Bolt Action Tactical Pen

Purchase on Amazon

When the adage “The pen is mightier than the sword” was first coined, it is safe to say the Bolt Action Tactical Pen was not in existence. If it had been, the phrase would’ve needed a small disclaimer. Basically, the Bolt Action Tactical Pen is what you’d get if said pen and said sword got it on and had a small child. Acting as both your writing mechanism and a self-defense tool, this pen is the one you’ll want clipped to your shirt after those late night meetings in Detroit’s outskirts (or possibly, you may want to consider a career change). Even if you’re not in need of a small weapon, the bolt action on the pen is awesome for all of us who fidget constantly in hour-long meetings or classes. $50
